The Technical Lead conducts routine and complex analyses, prepares and reviews test data, writes technical reports, troubleshoots methods and instruments, trains analysts, and helps ensure laboratory work is completed safely, accurately, and on schedule. This is a non-supervisory technical leadership role. The position is expected to maintain a regular bench-testing workload in addition to its technical leadership and quality responsibilities. Because this position requires access to export-controlled and other restricted customer information, employment is limited to U.S. citizens. Key Responsibilities Laboratory Testing Perform routine and complex chemical analyses on raw materials, finished products, components, residues, deposits, and other customer-submitted materials. Operate analytical instrumentation and perform wet-chemistry testing in accordance with approved methods. Prepare clear, technically supportable test reports. Perform testing in accordance with the laboratory quality system, approved procedures, customer specifications, and applicable standards. Support compliance with ISO/IEC 17025, applicable ASTM and industry standards, customer requirements, and laboratory procedures. Technical Leadership Provide day-to-day technical guidance to chemists and laboratory technicians. Assist laboratory management with workload planning, test assignments, scheduling, and prioritization. Review analytical data, calculations, spectra, chromatograms, quality-control results, and reports for accuracy, completeness, and technical validity. Customer and Business Support Communicate with customers and internal personnel regarding test requirements, methods, sample suitability, turnaround time, and results. Assist with technical scope reviews, quotations, feasibility assessments, and project planning. Support improvements in testing quality, efficiency, capacity, cost, and turnaround time. Qualifications Minimum Requirements Bachelor's degree in chemistry, analytical chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, or a related scientific discipline. At least five years of hands-on chemical laboratory testing experience. Working knowledge of laboratory quality systems, quality-control practices, and data-integrity requirements. Experience training or providing technical guidance to laboratory personnel. Strong written, verbal, organizational, and problem-solving skills. U.S. citizenship is required. Preferred Skills Experience in an ISO/IEC 17025-accredited or independent testing laboratory. Experience with several relevant techniques, such as ICP-OES, GC-MS, FTIR, ion chromatography, carbon/sulfur analysis, titration, and other wet-chemistry methods. Experience with method validation or verification, measurement uncertainty, proficiency testing, and corrective-action investigations. Familiarity with applicable ASTM, aerospace, defense, customer-specific, or other industry standards. Experience using laboratory information systems and instrument data systems. Previous experience as a technical lead, senior chemist, or laboratory supervisor. Advanced degree in chemistry or related discipline. Compensation Salary based on experience (anticipated $75,000 - $90,000 per year) 9/80 work schedule (every other Friday off) Health, dental, and vision insurance Paid time off (PTO) 401(k) retirement plan Physical and Work Requirements Ability to work safely in a chemical laboratory and wear required personal protective equipment. Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive laboratory activities. Ability to safely handle samples, chemicals, glassware, compressed gases, laboratory equipment, and chemical waste. Ability to lift and carry laboratory supplies or samples weighing up to 20 pounds. Occasional schedule flexibility may be required for priority testing, instrument problems, or customer needs.
