The Summer Intern position provides undergraduate students with hands-on experience in industrial life-sciences labs, with a focus on virus filtration and bioprocessing. Interns lead a technical project while developing skills in independent learning, critical thinking, scientific documentation, and data handling. Guidance from senior scientists is provided as interns support lab activities and learn viral clearance methods used in biologics manufacturing. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Lead a defined internship project related to virus filtration or viral clearance technologies under scientific mentorship Research and summarize the scientific background, current industry practices, and technical challenges related to the project topic Propose creative or alternative experimental approaches to improve understanding of virus filtration performance or mechanisms Plan and drive execution of project activities in alignment with established laboratory practices and timelines Perform laboratory activities under supervision following approved procedures and safety requirements Analyze and interpret experimental data with guidance from project mentors Maintain clear, accurate scientific documentation in laboratory notebooks Communicate progress, findings, and challenges through regular updates to the project team Prepare and present a final technical presentation and report summarizing project results and learning outcomes Additional Duties and Responsibilities Participate in team meetings and technical discussions Assist with general laboratory organization and maintenance activities as needed Complete all required laboratory safety, quality, and compliance training Organizational Relationships Reports to a Scientist I or above Works with laboratory and technical staff Interacts with cross‑functional team members as required for project execution Minimum Requirements Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences or related discipline (Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, etc.) Completion of at least one year of coursework Attention to detail and documentation skills Ability to work safely in a laboratory environment Ability to research scientific literature and synthesize technical information Effective written and verbal communication skills Ability to work independently while collaborating within a team environment Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions Laboratory environment with PPE required Ability to stand for extended periods Light lifting as required The base compensation range for this role is $18-20/hour. Base Compensation is influenced by many factors including, but not limited to: time in the role, previous experience, skills, knowledge, performance, work requirements, internal equity, and business / economic conditions.
