Summary:
The Scientist I, Production (Chemist) is responsible for performing organic chemistry synthesis and supporting manufacturing operations in a scientific production environment. This role involves executing manufacturing processes, analyzing reagents and finished products, maintaining accurate documentation, and supporting process improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess strong chemistry knowledge, manufacturing experience, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment.
Responsibilities:
Perform organic chemistry syntheses in a manufacturing environment. Understand and execute written production procedures and manufacturing documents. Produce and analyze reagents, intermediates, and finished products according to manufacturing plans. Maintain accurate inventory records for raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods using ERP systems. Analyze and interpret scientific data and manufacturing results. Coordinate with cross-functional teams including planning, purchasing, R D, Manufacturing Sciences, and Operations. Recognize manufacturing issues, perform experiments, and recommend corrective actions to improve processes. Maintain complete and accurate manufacturing documentation including batch records, notebooks, and work orders. Create, revise, and improve process documentation to support efficient and reproducible manufacturing operations. Ensure compliance with quality standards and continuously improve product quality and manufacturing efficiency. Participate in new product development and process improvement activities. Support department goals related to quality, safety, and on-time completion of work. Collaborate with Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) teams to ensure compliance with safety guidelines.
Required Skills:
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related scientific discipline required/ Master's degree in Organic Chemistry preferred. Minimum of 2-3 years of manufacturing experience. Strong understanding of organic chemistry principles and manufacturing processes. Excellent technical writing and documentation skills. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational abilities. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to prioritize multiple projects and work independently. Experience working in a team-based manufacturing environment. Knowledge of ERP systems and inventory management processes preferred. Experience in large-scale manufacturing and life sciences production environments. Experience supporting new product introduction and process development initiatives.
