Job Description

The Science Laboratory Aide oversees the operation of assigned science lab (Biology, A&P, Chemistry, Microbiology, Biotechnology) and related services. Read and follow the lab manual instructions (SOPs) for each lab session Follow the directions for each lab, prepare and set up materials and equipment for laboratory experiments on daily basis Prior to each lab session and based on the requirements for each lab, obtain equipment and supplies To ensure adequate supplies and material institute appropriate means of inventory monitoring/ control Maintain labs in a clean, disinfected and orderly manner / Assist with Green house maintenance. Read and follow chemical safety data sheets for implementation of safety procedures Dispose of chemicals and bio-hazardous waste in proper containers, including disposal of dissected specimens Ensure proper storage and retrieval of supplies Consult with Faculty/Course facilitator to purchase perishable lab items as required. Assist and support faculty and students during lab sessions Support Departmental Activities and Associate Dean requests as need arise. Supervise and assist students attending open lab sessions On request of faculty make provide copies of designated lab reports/materials for lab sessions. Science student or AA Science degree Computer literate Background in Biological & Physical Science courses preferred. Open to US citizens, permanent residents and International students with valid documentation.
Administrative requirements:
Sign in and out in the daily log for attendance, validation by faculty on site. Give at least 24 hours' notice for pending absence. Call supervisor and/or department administrative assistant regarding unplanned absences.
