The Division of Forensic Sciences (DFS) operates the Wisconsin State Crime Laboratories (WSCL). DFS employs forensic scientists, technicians, evidence specialists, and crime scene response professionals and offers scientific testing and impartial forensic analysis of evidence in criminal cases for every community in Wisconsin. DFS crime laboratories—located in Madison, Milwaukee, and Wausau—are the only full-service forensic science laboratories in Wisconsin. Position Summary DFS is recruiting for Forensic Scientist Supervisor positions within the State of Wisconsin Madison Crime Laboratory - DNA Section and Milwaukee Crime Laboratory - Chemistry Section. These positions will be headquartered at: The Madison Crime Laboratory, located at 4626 University Avenue, in the award-winning city of Madison or The Milwaukee Crime Laboratory currently located at 1578 S. 11th Street in Milwaukee. The State of Wisconsin and Milwaukee County are partnering up to create a new state-of-the-art facility that will house the Milwaukee Crime Laboratory Bureau. The facility will open in Spring 2026! The headquartered location will be set at the time the position is filled, dependent on where vacancy exists. This recruitment may be used for future vacancies within this classification in both locations and in any of the following disciplines: Chemistry, Criminalistics, and DNA. These positions will serve as the Division of Forensic Sciences (DFS) Forensic Scientist Supervisor and is responsible for the formulation, determination, and implementation of management policy as it relates to high-level projects regarding all elements of biometrics identification and information systems with a statewide impact within DFS. The operations of DFS are highly complex, aiding all law enforcement agencies and attorneys across the state with providing scientific technical assistance in various fields of forensic science through investigations and court testimonies, as well as administering formula grant programs for forensic science partners across the state. For more information, review the position descriptions: Forensic Scientist Supervisor Madison Forensic Scientist Supervisor Milwaukee Salary Information The Forensic Scientist Supervisor position is in pay schedule 81 and pay range 03. The starting salary for this position will be between $43.00/hour ($89,440/year) and $45.67/hour ($94, 993/year) depending upon experience and qualifications, plus excellent benefits. Pay for current or former state employees will follow the provisions found in the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan effective at the time of hire. A 12-month probationary period may be required. Job Details This position will work in-person at the headquartered location, with the possibility to work remotely up to two days per week. High speed internet access will be required to meet needs of remote work. Travel to the headquarters is not eligible for travel reimbursement. The Department of Justice does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required Employment Eligibility Form I-9. Coordinating workflows within a laboratory setting. Effectively prioritizing duties/tasks and remaining organized to meet operational initiatives. In addition to the minimum qualifications, a well-qualified applicant will also have experience in any of the following: Working within an
ISO 17025
accredited laboratory. Supervising or leading within a laboratory setting in a formal or informal role. Effectively communicate and lead teams with a variety of internal and external participants.
