Job Description
Postdoctoral Research Position in Inorganic Crystal Growth -
Department of Chemistry Location:
Open Date:
Description The Kolis research group in the Department of Chemistry at Clemson University is seeking a motivated postdoctoral researcher to join an existing project involving the synthesis and development of single crystal fibers for high powered laser applications. The project is part of a center funded by the Space and Missile Defense Command to general new materials for high powered lasers. The focus of Kolis group research for this project is on the growth of novel single crystal fibers of doped oxides using LHPG and exploring cladding processes using high temperature hydrothermal growth. The project is a collaborative program that employs these single crystal fibers for development of high energy lasers for US Army applications. The anticipated start date is flexible but late May 2026 is preferred. The appointment will be for one year with options for yearly renewal based on performance and funding availability.About Us:
For more information about the department, please visit the website ( http://www.clemson.edu/chemistry ). For more information about Clemson, please visit the website http://www.clemson.edu/ . Qualifications A Ph.D. in Chemistry, Physics, or a related field is required. Prior experience with single crystal growth is required with high temperature growth preferred. As a condition of the grant funding this research, US citizenship is required for this appointment. The successful candidate should have proven ability to generate high quality single crystals of doped laser host oxides using high temperature thermal growth techniques, and also be able to grow single crystal cladding on single crystal cores. We welcome candidates who wish to apply and advance these methods to generate novel materials that have the potential to generate high power lasers for military applications. Application Instructions Review of applications will begin immediately, and the position will open until filled. To apply, please submit the following materials via Interfolio at: https://apply.interfolio.com/185187 1. Cover letter detailing your research interests, background, and future goals 2.
