Open Until Filled Job Description Job Description The Department of Chemistry and Physics at Lincoln Memorial University invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor in Physical Chemistry. The ideal candidate will have an earned PhD in Physical Chemistry with an emphasis on computational chemistry. The primary teaching responsibilities of this position may include physical chemistry and/or general chemistry lectures and laboratories (for majors and/or non-majors). The instructional faculty member shall have the primary responsibilities of teaching, research/creative achievement, academic advising, and service functions and shall be held accountable for these obligations as they contribute to the attainment of the mission of the University, the School, and the Department. Required Qualifications
  • terminal degree (PhD) in Physical Chemistry or equivalent professional preparation;
  • educational preparation in accordance with requirements of the University and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools; and
  • evidence of potential for effective teaching and scholarly activity. Preferred Qualifications
  • college-level teaching experience Physical Demands Campus Harrogate Job Duty Job Duty undertake the Standard Instructional/Research/Service Workload as outlined in the LMU Employee Handbook; Job Duty provide course and classroom conduct as outlined in the LMU Employee Handbook; Job Duty comply with the university LMU Employee Handbook; Job Duty submit textbook requests; Job Duty comply with announced requirements; Job Duty engage in professional development; Job Duty assist the department chair with effective development and implementation of department s Student Recruitment and Retention Plan, such as Homepage, Brochures, and student letters; Job Duty assist department chair in the development, implementation and monitoring of the Long-Range Strategic Plan and Outcomes Assessment Plan for the assigned program/department; Job Duty support and promote the university s SEWS and Transparent Instruction programs (as applicable) within the curriculum; Job Duty assist the department chair with necessary department, school or university reports/schedules as requested; Job Duty demonstrate current knowledge of discipline content and assist the department chair with curricular revisions and changes as requested; Job Duty appropriately align course syllabi goals and objectives to academic major program goals and student outcomes for each course taught; Job Duty develop a current syllabus for each assigned class and distribute a course syllabus to each student; Job Duty submit a current copy of each syllabus to the department chair by a predetermined deadline; Job Duty evaluate enrolled students and submit grades to the Registrar by a predetermined deadline; Job Duty requisition instructional materials and supplies through the department chair; Job Duty assure completion of the student course evaluation instrument for the semester as requested; Job Duty participate in the faculty evaluation process and use the results to improve teaching and strengthen the major; Job Duty establish and maintain the resources of the academic department, the school, and the University; Job Duty submit to department chair his/her semester schedule that indicates weekly teaching assignment, office/conference hours and involvement in university, school and department councils or committees; Job Duty effectively advise assigned students in an individualized educational plan for their program of study and maintain an accurate and current academic file for each advisee; Job Duty explore career goals with each assigned advisee; Job Duty mentor majors through the research process; Job Duty fulfill the university s scholarship expectation through research, publication, grant development, and creative achievement; Job Duty participate in events that support the institution, the faculty, staff and students; Job Duty participate in commencement exercises; Job Duty participate in community and public service opportunities; Job Duty attend department, school, convocation, and university faculty meetings; Job Duty promote the mission of Lincoln Memorial University to all faculty, staff, students, and to the community at large; Job Duty promote effective working relationships among faculty, staff, and students; Job Duty participate on university committees; Job Duty maintain proper security for all University files and information and follow privacy procedures at all times; Job Duty maintain records and procedures for duties and responsibilities of position; Job Duty complete required institutional, program accreditation, and other reports necessary for the advancement of University programs, both on campus and at extended campus sites; Job Duty perform other duties as assigned.
