Job TitleSenior Laboratory Manager - Computational & Theoretical Chemistry Agency Texas A&M University Department Chemistry Proposed Minimum SalaryCommensurate Job LocationCollege Station, Texas Job TypeStaff Job Description Here's a Glimpse of the Job Texas A&M's Department of Chemistry is looking for a Senior Laboratory Manager who provides high-level scientific, operational, and strategic leadership for a large and interdisciplinary computational and theoretical chemistry research group. The laboratory spans quantum mechanics and electronic structure theory, quantum dynamics, cavity-modified chemistry, materials chemistry, geochemistry, drug discovery, artificial intelligence and machine learning, and emerging directions in quantum computing. This position functions as a senior research leader within the group, working closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) to ensure scientific excellence, sustained funding growth, operational effectiveness, and long-term strategic development. The role requires demonstrated success in externally funded research and the ability to contribute substantively to competitive proposal development. Opportunities to Contribute Provide operational and scientific leadership for a large computational research group, coordinating activities across multiple thematic areas and interdisciplinary subgroups. Oversee and maintain the group's computational infrastructure, including software licensing, code management, and integration of AI/ML frameworks and quantum computing tools to support research programs. Implement and promote best practices in data management, reproducibility, documentation, and collaborative research workflows to ensure high‑quality, scalable research outcomes. Manage onboarding, integration, and day‑to‑day coordination of research personnel, including graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, visiting researchers, and undergraduate students. Facilitate effective communication and collaboration across interdisciplinary teams, fostering a strong, inclusive, and high‑performance research culture. Play a leadership role in proposal development, including drafting technical sections, shaping research aims, coordinating collaborators, managing submission timelines, and engaging the research team throughout proposal preparation. Contribute to and pursue multi‑investigator and multi‑institutional funding opportunities, including center‑scale initiatives and strategic partnerships aligned with long‑term research goals. Identify and evaluate new funding opportunities, supporting sponsor reporting, renewal preparation, and development of long‑term funding strategies across diverse research areas. Assist with financial and project management, including PI‑level budget planning, grant tracking, milestone monitoring, and alignment of resources with research objectives. Support long‑range research planning and strategic positioning, helping place the group at the forefront of emerging interdisciplinary efforts in quantum chemistry, materials modeling, geochemistry, drug discovery, AI‑enabled chemistry, and quantum computing. Qualifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Seven years related experience in laboratory management. A well-qualified candidate for this position will also possess: Ph.D. in theoretical or computational chemistry, chemical physics, materials science, computational science, nanoscience or a closely related field. Demonstrated successful grant-writing experience with documented success as a Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI) on externally funded federal research awards. Experience contributing to or leading multi-investigator successful (funded) proposal efforts. Experience working in a computational and/or theoretical research environment. Familiarity with high-performance computing systems and research software ecosystems. Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
Salary:
Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected candidate's education and experience.

Due to this position's salary having all or a portion of it being funded by grants or contracts, the continuing salary and overall employment is contingent upon availability of these funds in the future.
