About Capitol Analysis Capitol Analysis is a WSDA-accredited cannabis analytical laboratory dedicated to delivering defensible, high-quality data for regulatory compliance and product safety. The laboratory performs all required I-502 testing, including pesticides, residual solvents, cannabinoids/potency, heavy metals, microbiological contaminants, and expanded analytical services. Our mission is to maintain the highest standards of data integrity, method performance, and regulatory compliance. Position Summary Capitol Analysis is seeking an Analytical Chemist II with strong expertise in
LC-MS/MS
(triple quadrupole) and Agilent GC-MS systems. This role focuses on trace-level pesticide residue analysis and residual solvent testing in complex cannabis matrices. The ideal candidate can independently execute multi-residue methods, troubleshoot instrumentation, and perform rigorous quantitative data review in a regulated environment. Secondary responsibilities include cannabinoid potency (HPLC) and heavy metals (ICP-MS) support. Analytical Testing & Laboratory Responsibilities Perform pesticide residue analysis usingLC-MS/MS
(triple quadrupole) platforms, including method execution, calibration, tuning, and troubleshooting. Conduct residual solvent testing using Agilent GC-MS systems, ensuring compliance with WSDA action limits. Utilize Agilent MassHunter and ChemStation software for data acquisition, processing, and reporting. Perform quantitative analysis, calibration curve generation, system suitability testing, and QC verification. Key Responsibilities- Pesticide Analysis (Primary Focus) Perform multi-residue pesticide analysis using
LC-MS/MS
(triple quad)- Execute sample preparation (e.g., QuEChERS) for complex cannabis matrices Optimize MRM methods, calibration curves, and QC performance
- Evaluate matrix effects, recoveries, and batch QC (blanks, ICVs spikes, LCS)
- Troubleshoot ion suppression, sensitivity loss, and instrument performance
- Residual Solvent Analysis (GC-MS)
- Perform headspace GC-MS analysis in compliance with WSDA limits
- Maintain calibration, system suitability, and resolve carryover/contamination
- Cannabinoids & Heavy Metals (Support)
- Conduct potency testing via HPLC (THC, CBD, and related cannabinoids)
- Support ICP-MS heavy metals analysis (As, Cd, Pb, Hg) as needed
Laboratory Operations:
- Execute full workflow: sample receipt → preparation → extraction → analysis
- Maintain chain-of-custody, traceability, and documentation Operate and maintain:
LC-MS/MS
(triple quad)- Agilent GC-MS (headspace), HPLC and ICP-MS
- Utilize Agilent MassHunter and ChemStation for data acquisition and processing
- Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Perform data review, batch validation, and documentation
- Investigate Out of Specification (OOS)/Out of Trend (OOT) results and support CAPA
- Ensure compliance with WSDA regulations, WAC requirements, and SOPs
- Participate in Proficiency Testing (PT) and evaluate performance trends Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Work with the Scientific Director on method optimization and troubleshooting
- Contribute to process improvements and lab efficiency
- Clearly communicate technical findings to internal teams Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field 4-6 years of experience in a regulated analytical laboratory
- Direct experience with pesticide and/or residual solvent testing
- Experience working under
WSDA, ISO
17025, or similar regulatory frameworks Technical Expertise Advanced proficiency with:LC-MS/MS
(triple quadrupole)- pesticide analysis
- Agilent GC-MS
- residual solvents
- Agilent MassHunter software (required) Strong knowledge of:
- Instrument calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting
- Quantitative analysis and QC practices
- Regulatory limits for cannabis contaminants Quality & Compliance
- Experience with QA/QC systems, including:
- SOP support/updates
- Data review and validation
- Deviation investigations
- Strong understanding of data integrity in regulated labs Additional Skills
