The Chemistry Laboratory Coordinator/Chemical Safety Officer holds an administrative staff appointment in the College of Arts and Sciences. This position reports to the Chair of the Department of Computational and Physical Sciences. The Chemistry Laboratory Coordinator/Chemical Safety Officer also works in conjunction with the Risk Manager, other laboratory coordinators in the College, faculty, and college and department staff and work study students. The Chemistry Laboratory Coordinator/Chemical Safety Officer must plan and arrange his or her own work, maintain and implement the College's Chemical Safety Plan.
Responsibilities:
Review, implementation, assessment, and management of all components of the College's Chemical Safety Plan. Laboratory preparation for chemistry labs. Oversight of the chemistry program laboratory administrative duties including inventory and ordering of supplies and equipment, management of the laboratory fees budget, documentation, and service assessment. Ordering gases and supplies for instruments. Ordering liquid nitrogen for the NMR, receiving it from the vendor and then filling the NMR - on a weekly basis. (Being able to lift at least 50-100 lbs). Responsible for student workers - scheduling, training and approving their time. Work with Public Safety to approve student access to research labs. PM/troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.. Getting quotes for chemicals, maintenance contracts, and equipment. Filling out work orders for computer issues. Filling out work orders for facility issues. On call 24 hrs for freezer/refrigerator issues. On call 24 hrs for Chemical Safety Officer issues. Education and/or
Experience :
A bachelor of science degree in chemistry or related field Experience in Chemical Safety Plan and laboratory management Experience in chemical safety manual and report preparation
Technology Skills:
