Oncology Full Job Description Overview:
UnityPoint Health is actively recruiting for an Inpatient A dult Hematology/Oncology Physician in Des Moines, IA UnityPoint Health is building an integrated, statewide oncology service line designed to deliver exceptional cancer care close to home while connecting patients with advanced expertise when they need it. John Stoddard Cancer Center in Des Moines serves as a tertiary hub for this growing network, and we are developing a dedicated inpatient oncology service to complement our expanding outpatient program. This is a unique opportunity for an oncologist who enjoys the complexity of hospitalized cancer patients while seeking an exceptionally attractive and predictable schedule. John Stoddard Cancer Center is a comprehensive cancer center serving Des Moines and communities throughout Iowa. Patients have access to multidisciplinary cancer care including medical oncology, radiation oncology, surgical oncology, clinical research, genetics, supportive and palliative care, and survivorship services. The cancer center is part of UnityPoint Health, one of the region's leading nonprofit health systems, providing an integrated environment that allows physicians to coordinate care across the entire cancer journey. Two weeks on / two weeks off per month Dedicated inpatient oncology practice with no outpatient clinic responsibilities during service weeks Primarily a consultative oncology service — patients are admitted and managed by the hospitalist service Average oncology census of approximately 10-16 patients Dedicated advanced practice provider support Close collaboration with medical oncology, radiation oncology, surgical oncology, palliative care, hospital medicine, and other specialists Perform bone marrow biopsies and other appropriate oncology procedures Practice across an established three-hospital system serving the Des Moines community Fully integrated Epic EMR across hospitals and clinics, supporting seamless communication with the patient's outpatient oncology team
Responsibilities:
The inpatient oncologist will be an important member of a rapidly developing comprehensive cancer program. The position is designed to provide continuity between inpatient and outpatient cancer care, support our community oncologists, and help create a consistent approach to the management of complex hospitalized oncology patients. For the right physician, there will be opportunities to help shape the inpatient oncology model as UnityPoint Health continues to develop its statewide cancer program.
Qualifications:
