Job Title:
Environmental Specialist Job Description We are seeking an Environmental Specialist to support field services operations at a fully permitted hazardous waste treatment and storage facility. This role focuses on material handling, waste processing, and safe execution of daily environmental tasks in an outdoor industrial setting. Candidates will assist with shipping and receiving of hazardous waste, support spill response activities, and ensure all materials are handled in compliance with RCRA and facility procedures. Responsibilities Manifest and package hazardous waste, including profiling, labeling, and preparing materials for shipment Support spill clean‑up response and remedial activities as needed Load and unload waste materials and coordinate transportation logistics Maintain a professional, client‑facing presence by answering questions and providing solutions Assist with receiving incoming waste and completing manifest documentation Load and unload containers including totes, drums, tankers, and trailers Decontaminate and dispose of empty drums and containers according to RCRA and disposal guidelines Maintain clean work areas and follow all safety procedures in a regulated environment Essential Skills High school diploma or GED Minimum 1 year of experience in material handling, environmental services, or related industrial work Ability to use computers independently, including Gmail and Teams Strong attention to detail and ability to follow safety and compliance procedures Preferred Qualifications Associate's or bachelor's degree in a science‑related field Experience with hazardous waste, lab pack, chemical inventory, or warehouse operations Familiarity with RCRA regulations and environmental compliance Work Environment This is a 24/7 outdoor industrial facility operating under a RCRA Part B Hazardous Waste Permit. The site processes solid and liquid waste from industrial and residential sources, including solvents, fuels, inorganic solids, household chemicals, paints, electronics, batteries, automotive fluids, propane cylinders, and fire extinguishers. Work is performed alongside one other team member in an active waste‑handling environment with exposure to various weather conditions. Shift and Schedule Monday through Friday, 10:00am to 6:00/7:00pm Some mandatory weekend work required Career Path Clear advancement opportunities to Environmental Specialist II, Environmental Specialist III, and Project Manager, with eligibility to test into each level after six months in role. The industry offers long‑term stability with consistent demand for waste management services. Direct‑Hire Benefits (upon conversion) 12 paid holidays 56 hours of sick time 3 weeks of accrued vacation Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Commerce City, CO. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
