Job Description

Environmental Specialist Join our mission-driven team at Babcock Ranch In this critical supporting role, you will work directly with the Environmental Conservation Manager to protect and enhance the unique ecosystems of Babcock Ranch. From hands-on wildlife management to technical ArcGIS analysis, you will play a vital part in maintaining America's first solar-powered town.
Key Responsibilities:
Field Management & Land Stewardship Spearhead Ecological Maintenance :
Execute field monitoring and coordinate exotic vegetation control (chemical & mechanical) to preserve native habitats and greenspaces.
Wildlife & Habitat Protection :
Conduct protected species surveys, monitor nests, and manage exotic wildlife populations to ensure a thriving local ecosystem.
Advanced Resource Management :
Facilitate prescribed burns and manage hydrological restoration, including wetland creation and weir installations.
Tree Translocation :
Support our signature heritage oak tree translocation program to preserve local biodiversity.
Technical Analysis & Compliance Environmental Data Mastery :
Utilize ArcGIS Pro to generate precise maps and compile technical reports that drive conservation decisions.
Hydrological Monitoring :
Track water quality, flow, and level (Piezometers) to ensure sustainable water management systems.
Regulatory Compliance :
Lead inspections for Independent Special District (BRISD) turnovers and ensure all projects meet local, state, and county environmental standards.
Community Engagement & Outreach Educate & Inspire :
Lead nature "walk & talks," deliver environmental presentations, and coordinate community events to foster stewardship among residents.
Cross-Departmental Collaboration :
Serve as a technical liaison for the HOA, Community Patrol, and local rangers on wildlife assistance and reports. Physical & Work Requirements Thrive in the
Field :
This role requires the ability to perform rigorous work in all weather conditions, including Florida's extreme heat and humidity, and the ability to traverse dense vegetation or deep water.
Flexibility :
Occasional pre-dawn or late-evening surveys may be required to accommodate wildlife activity.
In-Person Presence :
Regular attendance is required at our Babcock Ranch facilities to ensure real-time response to conservation needs. Education and/or
Experience:
At least 2 years of college coursework in a scientific field of study or equivalent work experience in the environmental field (i.e. environmental studies, soil science, wetland science, botany, or wildlife related) or; At least 3 years of experience in the management of Florida's natural communities. Florida Certified Prescribed Burn Manager Certification is beneficial. Experience with GPS & ArcGIS Pro is beneficial. Commercial RUP Applicators License is beneficial.
