03/27/2026 The City of Winder is seeking an Environmental Specialist to support water resource protection, stormwater compliance, and public education efforts. This role combines fieldwork, environmental monitoring, and community outreach to help safeguard local streams, lakes, and watersheds. Key Responsibilities Conduct public education programs, presentations, and outreach on stormwater and water quality. Perform weekly inspections of streams, creeks, and lakes; document findings and initiate corrective actions. Collect and label water samples; investigate illegal discharges and report spills per GA EPD regulations. Inspect construction sites for erosion control compliance. Assist with MS4 stormwater outfall inspections and reporting. Conduct aquatic organism surveys and prepare related water quality reports. Provide training and guidance to junior staff; assist with basic vehicle and equipment maintenance. Respond to emergency conditions as required. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, or related field. One year of experience in environmental or stormwater monitoring. Soil Erosion & Sedimentation Control Certification (or ability to obtain within 1 year). GIS certification preferred. Valid Class C Driver's License with satisfactory MVR. Skills & Abilities Knowledge of water sampling, lab procedures, and aquatic organism identification. Strong communication and public speaking skills. Ability to read maps, work outdoors in all weather, and navigate remote or uneven terrain. Ability to lift up to 65 lbs and perform physically demanding fieldwork. Working Conditions Outdoor, all-weather environment with exposure to noise, chemicals, uneven surfaces, and confined spaces. PPE required as assigned.
