Hiring Agency Justice & Public Safety Cabinet | Department of Public Advocacy Location 701 W Jefferson St Louisville, KY 40202 USA Description The Department of Public Advocacy (DPA) is seeking a dedicated Alternative Sentencing Worker Specialist (ASW Specialist) to join our team. The ASW Specialist works as part of the defense team to assist clients with substance use and mental health issues, developing alternative sentencing plans that focus on treatment and rehabilitation instead of incarceration. Please be advised that although medical cannabis has been legalized in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, due to other applicable state or federal laws, employees in this position are prohibited from using medical cannabis. This position supports the ASW Program Supervisor and provides leadership within the Alternative Sentencing Program.
Duties include:
Providing coverage for RKC referrals when the Program Supervisor is unavailable. Coordinating intern placements and onboarding with ASWs and the Education Branch. Establishing and conducting training for ASWs supervising interns. Reviewing university partnership portals and practicum contracts. Attending KORE and other collaborative meetings as needed. Assisting with ASW hiring panels and training new attorneys on holistic defense. Supporting veteran identification efforts through the VA Square system.
