LOCATION
Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock, West Bethesda, MD
RESPONSIBILITIES
Evaluate and characterize data on Armed Forces vessels and incidental liquid discharges from those vessels to determine their chemical, physical, and biological composition. Review and interpret federal laws and regulations and translate their requirements to include drafting and editing compliance documents and other rulemaking documentation. Review and evaluate credibility of technical reports on a wide range of Navy-relevant topics Draft and review comprehensive technical reports and briefings to support compliance with federal discharge regulations. Potentially conduct scientific assessments and data analysis to determine the projected environmental impact of liquid discharges on marine, estuarine, and freshwater ecosystems. Assess the technical feasibility, cost-effectiveness, safety, and operational mission impact of integrating discharge mitigation technologies aboard Armed Forces vessels.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in an engineering or science-based discipline, with preference given to biology, chemistry, environmental, mechanical, systems, or naval-based specialties Master's degree preferred 2+ years of internship or professional experience
REQUIREMENTS
The candidate must have high attention to detail in reading and comprehending regulatory and technical language. The candidate must have strong report writing and technical editing skills, with preference given to those with prior experience with federal documentation. The candidate must be willing to develop foundational informational literacy skills on a broad range of technical topics and knowledge management skills for both historical and future archives. The candidate must have excellent communication skills to effectively transmit nuanced findings with team members, technical experts, and other mixed audiences. Ability to learn quickly and demonstrate a strong, professional and motivational attitude. Ability to work simultaneously on multiple, complex projects with short deadlines and quick, short turn-around tasks while still producing high quality work. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment that includes colleagues, other support contractors, and Government personnel. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and
TEAMS. SALARY RANGE
$85,000 - $95,000 per year In determining compensation, various factors will be considered, including but not limited to, educational background; relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, market factors; and geographic location.
