Job Opportunity CST is seeking an entry to mid-level Environmental Scientist as a Stack Testing Technician to support emissions testing projects on stationary sources within the energy and industrial sectors for private and government stakeholders. Advancement opportunities are available for individuals who show initiative, a willingness to learn, and strong problem-solving skills. Role Characteristics This position is ideal for those who enjoy working outdoors on a diverse range of projects, utilizing technical knowledge, instrumentation, and traveling regularly. Stack testing is suited to individuals who prefer not to be confined to a desk. This role involves frequent fieldwork, with overnight travel accounting for approximately 60% of the time, as well as overtime with the need for scheduling flexibility. On-site field testing is conducted in a mobile laboratory and involves the use of varied instrumentation, including NDIR, chemiluminescence, FID, and FTIR. Technicians are trained to become proficient in EPA sampling methods and quality assurance and control requirements. Adaptability, creative problem-solving, and strong mechanical aptitude are essential,as team members often encounter unique challenges that require innovative solutions. Requirements and Responsibilities Preferably college degree in chemistry, biology, geology, mathematics, engineering, or environmental science Experience with mechanical systems and engines is beneficial Laboratory and instrument calibration experience Strong professional verbal and written communication skills Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel Ability to process and reduce data, assist in generating reports, and perform related tasks Support equipment maintenance and repair Mechanical skills, pneumatic plumbing and low voltage electrical work Regular overnight travel plus overtime (travel 2-3 nights/week and avg 5-7 hours/week OT) Valid driver's license with a good driving record Ability to comfortably lift and carry up to 50 pounds Capability to work at heights and in manlifts Ability to tow trailers or willingness to learn Willingness to work in various outdoor environments, with jobsite conditions and weather varying from site to site Ability to work both as part of a team and independently with minimal supervision Compliance with safety, drug and alcohol policies (including no marijuana/THC) plus willing to undergo a post-offer pre-employment background check Compensation Compensation for this position is based on education, skill set, and experience.
