Months Project Overview:
Thacker Pass is the largest known lithium resource in the United States. Once complete, the mine and processing facilities will produce more lithium carbonate than any other facility in the United States by far - enough to power 1 million electric vehicles per year. As the EPCM contractor for Lithium Americas, client is responsible for managing and integrating the efforts of a team contractors engineering and building the facility. We are also managing procurement of about $1 Billion in goods and services. Earth work began in 2023 and design and procurement of long-lead equipment is underway. The project is located in the high desert and wide-open spaces of north-central Nevada about 25 miles from the Oregon border, 1 hour northwest of Winnemucca, Nevada and 3 hours northeast of Reno. Planned with sustainability and the environment in mind, the facility will use its excess process heat to generate electricity and will recycle process water up to seven times. Once the second phase of the project is complete, Thacker Pass will produce more than 16 times the current U.S. output of lithium. Job Summary:
In this role, you will support the preparation and implementation of a project Environmental Management Plan and supervise a team to support plan integration and execution. You will work with functional leads, evaluate performance trends, and provide technical guidance on mitigation measures. Your leadership will ensure protection of environmentally sensitive areas, species, and communities.
Major Responsibilities:
Manager an environmental services program, inclusive of technical and administrative aspects. Supervises contractors and client contractors' personnel and provides guidance on their work activities. Provides technical support within ESH teams and to Engineering, Construction, Commissioning and Startup, Operations, Legal, Contracts, Procurement, Management, and other functions regarding ESH program execution. Emphasizes and uses risk assessment, data analysis, and client ESH Management System to help track and achieve continual improvement. Prepares technical and regulatory reports, reviews and performs environmental assessments and studies, researches issues to support ESH program execution, and evaluates data and performance trends. Participates in ESH emergency preparedness planning and confirms investigation and resolution of environmental incidents. Conducts inspections, monitoring, and sampling to assess compliance with contractual commitments, laws and regulations, environmental permits, and client requirements. Develops and maintains the project Construction Environmental Control Plan (CECP) Adopts client and regulatory requirements into the CECP where required by contract or law Actively supports field leaders in the implementation of the CECP Identifies environmental best practices for implementation Evolves and adapts the CECP through the project stages Identifies environmental activities to minimize risk associated with the project schedule
Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires a Bachelor's (or international equivalent) and 7-10 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Ability to utilize Microsoft office programs including word, PowerPoint, excel Demonstrated experience with construction projects site establishment activities including earthworks, civil works and piling Experience in managing environmental management systems including compliance tracking, technical report writing and development of dashboards Ability to conduct audits and inspections in compliance to project site requirements
