Group Environmental Services Managers are responsible for providing environmental compliance advice, as well as related technical and regulatory assistance, to executive and operational leaders in our corrugated and consumer packaging divisions. This position will be primarily responsible for providing environmental support services to manufacturing facilities in the midwestern US and will report to the Director of Environmental Services - Converting. This position will be based located in the Smurfit Westrock's Atlanta headquarters, in Atlanta with the possibility of working from home at a location within the Midwest region that would enable efficient travel to assigned facilities. Responsibilities Environmental Management Systems . Assist facility personnel in developing and implementing Environmental Management Systems consistent with Smurfit Westrock's Environmental Excellence program to foster ongoing environmental compliance, including supporting facility-level environmental teams. Compliance Advice . Provide environmental compliance assistance to the corrugated and consumer packaging manufacturing facilities and periodically conduct environmental assessments to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and company policies. Advise Smurfit Westrock executives and managers on interactions with environmental agency personnel regarding environmental matters. Technical Assistance . Furnish environmental technical assistance to the manufacturing facilities, including providing advice on air emissions monitoring and control, wastewater treatment system operations, and landfill/solid waste management. Permitting . Assist in obtaining and maintaining environmental permits. Special Projects Support . Support capital and strategic projects by identifying applicable environmental requirements and devising strategies to meet them in a timely and cost-effective manner. Assist in conducting the environmental aspects of due diligence activities to support new business initiatives. Enforcement Support . Assist facilities in resolving any environmental enforcement actions, coordinating with assigned legal counsel as required. Training and Auditing . Participate in environmental audits. Work with assigned facilities to respond to, identify and implement actions required to address environmental audit findings in a timely, effective and cost-efficient manner. Conduct environmental training for facilities.. Communications . Ensure that local management and other corporate leaders are informed in a timely manner about all environmental matters affecting the business. Qualifications BA/BS in engineering, chemistry, environmental science or other related science discipline 5 or more years of previous environmental experience in the pulp and paper industry or equivalent experience Working knowledge of environmental laws and regulations Skills The ability to work with a team in a fast-paced environment The ability to manage multiple priorities Good listening, verbal, written and presentation abilities Strong interpersonal and leadership skills Exemplary customer service skills and attention to detail Willingness to travel approximately up to 50% of time with flexibility to prepare own travel schedule
