This position is full-time, following a first shift schedule, Monday - Friday, and 35 hours per week with opportunities for a hybrid schedule that includes telework. As an Environmental Trainee with the Remediation Division, you will receive one year of on-the-job training for professional work in the investigation and remediation of contaminated sites. Additionally, you will be primarily responsible for assisting in fulfilling the critical mission of restoration, protection, and conservation of Connecticut's water and land resources and protection of public health and safety through: Compliance and enforcement of state and federal regulatory programs; Protection and conservation of water resources; and Reducing risks from historical contamination through site remediation.ABOUT US

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS
(NATURE OF WORK) In a state agency receives training in introductory professional environmental work for the development of technical and professional skills and knowledge in order to qualify for advancement to the professional environmental work of the agency; performs a wide variety of increasing difficult duties as technical skills are acquired during the course of the training period.KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
Knowledge of basic theories, principles and practices of environmental and policy analysis; basic statistics; environmental program planning principles and practices; Skills interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; analytical skills; research and organizational skills; Ability to understand and interpret legislation and technical data; utilize computer software.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Candidates must be able to meet the experience and training requirements of the designated job class at the completion of the development program.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience or education in environmental studies, natural resource management, chemistry, biology, geology, hydrogeology, geography, or physical sciences; Experience reviewing and interpreting technical environmental data; Experience or coursework in environmental investigations or cleanup of environmental media (i.e. soil, groundwater, and air); Experience or coursework in researching, evaluating and preparing reports based on environmental data and information; Experience or coursework in reading site plans, interpreting and using maps; Experience or coursework in communicating information verbally and in writing to peers, supervisors, municipal officials, or public audiences; Experience working in a team environment; and Experience or coursework in problem solving and conflict resolution.WORKING CONDITIONS
