Environmental Technician SCS Engineers USD $23.00 - USD $25.00 /Hr. parental leave, paid holidays, 401(k) United States, Iowa, West Des Moines 1690 All State Court (Show on map) Jul 09, 2026 Environmental Technician Location US-IA-West Des Moines Category Field Services and Construction Position Type Full Time Regular What we are looking for SCS is looking for a Field Technician who will support clients with environmental compliance at their facilities by performing field tasks, construction, and maintenance activities at solid waste and industrial waste sites, industrial sites, and other facilities as applicable. You will work for our West Des Moines office and will primarily work throughout the greater Iowa area. This position will be primarily based in the field, with the potential to include overnight stays up to four nights a week. However, the number of overnight stays on a week-to-week basis depends on the location and type of work being completed. How you can make an impact You will help industrial and solid waste clients maintain compliance by completing the job tasks below, which may not be all-inclusive of duties to be performed: Groundwater sampling Collect groundwater samples from monitoring wells, sumps, and surface water Operate, calibrate, and maintain various monitoring equipment Measure in-situ field parameters while collecting samples Record meticulous documentation during sampling Collect and evaluate/interpret scientific data; communicate observations and technical data verbally and in writing with supervisor and clients. Methane monitoring Measure methane concentrations in facility structures and subsurface monitoring wells Leachate monitoring Measure leachate levels in piezometers and collect samples from storage lagoons Groundwater and leachate pump installation and maintenance Drilling oversight Perform oversight during drilling and well construction activities Collect soil/bedrock samples during the drilling process Construction quality assurance during all phases of landfill cell construction Confined space entry Fusion welding Waste sorts Assist coworker on site in obtaining solid waste samples Complete visual sorts of bulky materials Perform work independently or as a team member in a professional, productive, and safe manner, adopting the principles of SCS's safety culture. Qualifications No experience is required; however, related experience is preferred. Related experience will be considered in mechanical, construction, environmental, or solid waste fields. Mechanical or construction knowledge/aptitude is preferred. Attention to detail and ability to keep working is required. Must meet physical requirements for driving (pick-up truck) including with pulling a trailer, operating an all-terrain vehicle, walking inspection of improved and unimproved property, lifting and carrying equipment/mechanical components (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), hand excavation/digging (using shovels/picks), carrying and climbing ladders, operating electric tools (drills, saws, etc.), using hand tools (screw drivers, wrenches, hammers, etc.) and providing services under varying weather conditions. Valid driver's license with a driving record in good standing is required. Pay Range USD $23.00 - USD $25.00 /Hr.
