Role:
The Environmental Service Technician plays a critical role in maintaining cleanliness, safety, and sanitation standards within healthcare and other institutional environments across the United States. This position ensures that all areas are properly cleaned and disinfected to prevent the spread of infections and maintain a healthy environment for patients, staff, and visitors. The technician will be responsible for following established protocols and using specialized cleaning equipment and chemicals safely and effectively. Attention to detail and adherence to safety regulations are paramount to successfully fulfilling this role. Ultimately, the Environmental Service Technician contributes to the overall quality of care and operational efficiency by creating a clean and safe environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions related to cleaning procedures and safety protocols. Physical ability to perform manual tasks including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods. Basic knowledge of cleaning chemicals and equipment usage. Legal authorization to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience in environmental services or janitorial work, preferably in a healthcare setting. Certification in infection control or environmental services. Familiarity with OSHA regulations and safety standards. Strong communication skills to effectively interact with team members and supervisors. Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays if required.
Responsibilities:
Perform routine and deep cleaning of patient rooms, operating rooms, public areas, and other designated spaces using appropriate cleaning agents and equipment. Follow infection control procedures and safety guidelines to minimize the risk of contamination and ensure compliance with health regulations. Dispose of waste materials, including hazardous and biohazardous waste, in accordance with established protocols. Maintain cleaning equipment and supplies, reporting any malfunctions or shortages to supervisors promptly. Document cleaning activities and report any maintenance or safety issues observed during cleaning rounds.

The Environmental Service Technician utilizes their knowledge of cleaning agents and equipment daily to ensure thorough sanitation of all assigned areas. Attention to detail is essential for identifying areas that require special cleaning or maintenance, thereby preventing potential health hazards. Effective communication skills enable the technician to report issues and coordinate with other staff members to maintain a safe environment.
