Job Title:
Environmental Scientist Job Description The Environmental Scientist will support field data collection, environmental monitoring, and site assessment activities that contribute to sustainable solutions for industrial, commercial, and government projects. In this role, you will work closely with geologists, scientists, and engineers as the second person on two‑person field teams, assisting with mixed media sampling, drilling oversight, operations and maintenance (O&M), and related tasks. You will split your time between fieldwork and report preparation, supporting projects focused on contaminated sites, water quality, and environmental compliance. Responsibilities Conduct field data collection and environmental monitoring to support project objectives and regulatory requirements. Participate as the second person on two‑person field teams, working alongside geologists, scientists, and engineers. Perform mixed media sampling, including soil, groundwater, and other environmental media, following established protocols. Provide drilling oversight during subsurface investigations to ensure proper sampling and documentation. Support operations and maintenance (O&M) activities for environmental systems and remediation projects. Assist with site assessments for contaminated properties, including documenting site conditions and collecting samples. Contribute to projects involving water quality, environmental compliance, and environmental remediation. Conduct groundwater sampling and environmental testing in accordance with applicable standards and procedures. Support permitting and environmental compliance tasks by gathering field data and preparing supporting documentation. Prepare clear and accurate field notes, logs, and basic technical reports summarizing field activities and findings. Collaborate with project teams to ensure that field activities align with project plans, health and safety requirements, and quality standards. Safely operate vehicles and field equipment while adhering to all safety protocols. Maintain a strong focus on health and safety, including proper use of personal protective equipment and adherence to OSHA and site-specific requirements. Essential Skills Familar and education in Environmental Science, Geology, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related discipline. Demonstrated ability to perform physically demanding fieldwork, including lifting equipment and working outdoors in varying conditions. Valid driver's license with the ability to travel to field sites as required. Experience or training in environmental science fieldwork, including environmental monitoring and site assessment. Knowledge of soil sampling techniques and soil sample handling procedures. Understanding of groundwater concepts and groundwater sampling methods. Familiarity with environmental remediation principles and practices. Ability to support environmental compliance activities, including data collection and documentation. Strong attention to detail in collecting, recording, and reporting environmental data. Commitment to working safely in the field and following OSHA and site safety requirements. OSHA 40-hourHAZWOPER
certification or willingness to obtain this certification before starting. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working on contaminated site investigations and remediation projects. Exposure to environmental permitting processes and regulatory compliance requirements. Hands-on experience with environmental testing and monitoring equipment. Coursework or practical experience in geology, hydrogeology, or environmental engineering. Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams of scientists and engineers. Strong written and verbal communication skills for documenting field activities and contributing to reports. Interest in professional growth and development, with the opportunity to advance into more scientific or engineering roles over time. Motivation to contribute to sustainable solutions for industrial, commercial, and government clients. Work Environment This role is primarily field-based, with a significant portion of time spent at project sites conducting environmental monitoring, sampling, and site assessments. You will work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and terrain, performing physically demanding tasks such as lifting equipment and operating in active construction or remediation areas. The position also includes time in an office setting to complete reporting, documentation, and coordination with project teams. You will use standard environmental field equipment and monitoring instruments, as well as computers and software tools for data entry and reporting. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $34.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
