Environmental Technician - First Shift Job Description This first-shift Environmental Technician role offers an entry-level opportunity to build hands-on experience in the environmental and waste management industry. You will handle and transport labeled drums of waste, distinguish between different materials, and ensure hazardous and non-hazardous waste is properly separated and stored. This position is ideal for individuals with an environmental science, biology, or chemistry experience, or related industry experience, who want to grow their career with a safety-focused, environmentally responsible organization. Responsibilities Transport labeled drums of waste safely and efficiently within the facility and to designated areas. Identify and verify the substances contained in each drum to ensure accurate handling and storage. Load and offload drums onto trucks using appropriate methods and equipment, following all safety procedures. Separate hazardous waste from non-hazardous waste and place each in the correct warehouse or storage location. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in both indoor and outdoor environments. Support environmental field activities such as basic soil sampling and materials handling, as needed. Follow all safety protocols and procedures, including those related to hazardous materials and hazardous waste. Collaborate with team members and supervisors to complete daily tasks and meet operational goals. Participate in training opportunities, including obtaining the 40-hourHAZWOPER
certification if not already held. Demonstrate a positive, "want to work" mindset by taking initiative and contributing to a strong safety culture. Essential Skills Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, or Chemistry OR at least one year of experience in a related industry. Foundational knowledge of environmental science concepts and practices. Ability to perform general labor tasks, including materials handling and drum movement. Ability to repeatedly lift and carry up to 50 pounds throughout the workday. Ability to stand and walk over uneven surfaces for extended periods. Ability to work outdoors in all climate conditions and indoors in non-climate-controlled conditions. Strong safety awareness when working with hazardous materials and hazardous waste. Positive mindset and strong desire to work, learn, and contribute to the team. Additional Skills & Qualifications OSHA 40-hourHAZWOPER
certification (strong plus; can be obtained on the job if not already held). Experience in the environmental field, including soil sampling or similar fieldwork. Prior exposure to hazardous materials handling and waste management operations. Demonstrated commitment to working safely and following established protocols. Interest in building a long-term career in the environmental and waste management industry. Work Environment This role operates in a mixed indoor and outdoor environment, with approximately half of the work performed outside in the environmental field and half inside warehouse or facility spaces. You will work on first shift and spend much of the day on your feet, standing and walking over uneven surfaces. The position requires repeatedly lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds and working in all weather conditions outdoors as well as indoors in non-climate-controlled areas. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hatfield, PA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
