Job Description
Environmental Technician Requisition Number:
2026-1810-07 S&ME is looking for a motivated and passionate Environmental Technician to join our Environmental team in Chattanooga, Tennessee . As an Environmental Technician , you will support environmental field investigations and hazardous materials assessments under the guidance of senior staff. This hands-on role involves fieldwork such as sampling various environmental media, assisting with data collection and reporting, and maintaining field equipment. You will also help perform routine maintenance on environmental remediation systems, which requires mechanical aptitude and familiarity with hand and power tools. This position offers a valuable opportunity to gain foundational experience in environmental science while contributing to meaningful environmental protection and compliance efforts.Your Day-to-Day:
Field Sampling:
Collect soil, groundwater, surface water, and sediment samples following standard procedures.Environmental Surveys:
Assist with wetland delineations, stream classifications, and identification of local plants and animals.System and Equipment Maintenance:
Perform routine maintenance and calibration of field equipment and environmental remediation systems to ensure reliable operation and accurate data collection, applying mechanical skills and using hand and power tools as needed.Data Support:
Record field observations and assist with basic reporting and data entry under supervision.What You Bring:
A High School diploma/GED Vocational training is a closely related field, preferred A minimum of 2 years of field-related experience working on geo-environmental projects Strong attention to detail and effective communication skills in English, including speaking, reading, and writing OSHA Hazwoper 40hr certification or 8hrRefresher Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment, such as: Working outdoors in varying weather conditions Walking over rough, uneven terrain and standing for potentially up to 12 hours a day Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs (field/laboratory samples and equipment) Maneuvering field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground around active construction sitesWe Are S&ME:
