Job Description We are looking for an Epidemiologist I - Vector-Borne and Zoonotic Disease to support public health investigations, enhance surveillance systems, and develop educational materials related to vector-borne diseases, zoonotic diseases, and animal bites. This position will be Full-Time and Hybrid . Only work authorizations that will not require sponsorship now or in the future will be considered. What You'll Do Enter morbidity and laboratory reports received by fax or mail into the state electronic disease surveillance system Support public health investigations of animal bites and tick-borne diseases, including arranging laboratory testing at the Indiana Department of Health (IDOH) Laboratory where appropriate Perform data quality assurance checks and corrections related to vector-borne diseases, zoonotic diseases, and animal bites in the state electronic disease surveillance system Support the implementation of new web-based reporting functionality for animal bites Assist in developing updated public communication materials, including social media content, website copy, brochures, fact sheets, and other educational resources for the public and partners Triage phone calls and provide technical assistance to health care providers, local health departments, members of the public, and other audiences as appropriate Collaborate with the VBZD Epidemiologist and other internal teams to strengthen surveillance systems and response activities Serve as a backup to the Epidemiologist IIs on the VBZD team in their absence
What You'll Need Required:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., public health, biological sciences), OR 2+ years of public health experience Ability to quickly acquire detailed knowledge of reportable disease conditions relevant to the position Ability to ascertain the existence of a public health threat by gathering and interpreting relevant information Ability to properly interpret and communicate state regulations and public health guidance documents Ability to identify appropriate indications for public health laboratory testing Ability to identify appropriate interventions for prevention of reportable disease conditions Ability to perform descriptive analyses of surveillance data and identify key findings Ability to identify limitations of surveillance data and support evaluation of surveillance systems Ability to prepare written and oral reports, presentations, and educational materials that communicate necessary information to internal and external partners Ability to elicit relevant information from patients in structured or unstructured telephone interviews Ability to use appropriate informatics tools in support of work activities Ability to provide prompt, courteous, and helpful customer service Ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external partners Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing Ability to prioritize tasks efficiently to meet internal and external deadlines Ability to appropriately document work activities and maintain organized records using assigned systems Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite #DNP Reasonable accommodation statement If you require a reasonable accommodation in completing this application, interviewing, completing any pre-employment testing, or otherwise participating in the employment selection process, please direct your inquiries to application.accommodations@cai.io or (888) 824 - 8111. $32.41 per hour The pay range for this position is listed above. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including location, experience, and education.
