EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

: Must hold a current RN licensure in the state of Indiana. Maintains this licensure and provides any renewals or changes. Infection prevention experience is preferred. Certification in Infection Control (CIC) is encouraged and preferred. Must possess Basic Life Support (BLS) and maintain per hospital policy. Possess a desire and capability for teaching all hospital and clinic staff. Receive APIC training within one year of date of hire for this position.

SHIFT:

Day Shift / Full-Time / No Weekends / No Holidays / Director Role

PRIMARY DUTIES

Responsible to the Infection Control Committee for: (1) Identifying, (2) Reporting, (3) Investigating, and (4) putting controls in place to mitigate infections and communicable diseases of patients and personnel throughout the organization. Reports communicable disease to proper authorities as required by the Indiana State Department of Health. Maintains any logs/records for these activities that may be needed. Maintains a record/log of hospital acquired infections. Responsible for investigation of employee exposures to blood borne pathogens and/ or infectious diseases. Initiating appropriate steps to protect the health of the employee and provide recommendations/interventions for the organization to prevent future incidents. Coordinates prophylaxis procedures. Monitors infection control standards/regulations and utilizes a variety of strategies to initiate needed changes. Serves on the Safety Committee, Pharmacy and Therapeutics, and Patient Services. Assist with the hospital-wide, mandatory education of infection prevention. Oversees employee compliance with the Indiana State Department of Health requirements for healthcare workers. Maintains employee health records. Maintains TB instructorship. Provides Validations for employees giving and reading TB skin tests. Provides fit testing competency for respiratory therapists who can assist with on hire and yearly OSHA required fit testing. In the event of an in-house infectious outbreak, would investigate and implement a plan of correction. The development and implementation of facility-wide infection surveillance, prevention, and control policies and procedures that adhere to nationally recognized guidelines.
