Job Summary Under the direction of the consulting Pathologist and the supervision of Risk Management, the Infection Preventionist is responsible for surveillance, identification, investigation, and data recording of healthcare-associated infections. This role involves initiating infection prevention measures and addressing communicable diseases among patients, staff, and volunteers. The Infection Preventionist is integral to the Infection Control Committee and supports the hospital's infection prevention programs.
Qualifications Required:
Bachelor's Degree, Associate Degree, or Diploma in Nursing or a medical field with training in infection control measures Passed the state board exam (if applicable) Strong knowledge of infection control measures and healthcare-associated infections Willingness to attend a two-day infection control course sponsored by APIC Commitment to ongoing education in infection control topics
Preferred:
Previous experience in Infection Control, but not required Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities Provide Support to the Infection Control Director Assist the Risk Manager in implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the hospital's infection control program. Ensure compliance with infection prevention policies and procedures through direct observation, compliance monitoring, and education across hospital units. Monitor and maintain records of healthcare-associated infections through surveillance and ensure proper documentation and follow-up. Ensure patients are appropriately isolated as per doctor's orders, and collaborate with providers to determine when isolation protocols can be lifted. Support Personnel in Infection Control Measures Educate hospital staff on infection prevention strategies, risks, and best practices to reduce the spread of infection. Monitor and enforce standards for asepsis, sterilization, disinfection, and hand hygiene throughout the organization. Collaborate with the Infection Control Committee to develop, update, and maintain infection prevention policies and procedures. Contribute to Infection Control Programs Collect and analyze surveillance data related to infections and present findings to the Risk Manager and Infection Control Committee. Recommend corrective actions, in-service education, or policy changes based on identified infection control issues. Participate actively in the Quality and Risk Management Program and serve as a member of relevant committees. Cooperate with the local health department on disease control activities as required.
