Division/Program Summary:

The Division of Disease Control's mission is to safeguard the health of New Yorkers through identification, surveillance, treatment, control, and prevention of infectious diseases, which is achieved through varied and interrelated endeavors of its seven Bureaus. The New York City (NYC) Bureau of Tuberculosis Control (BTBC) aims to prevent the spread of tuberculosis (TB) and eliminate it as a public health problem in NYC. The BTBC Office of Epidemiology reviews and assesses TB exposures in residential and non-residential congregate settings; conducts investigations in these settings to identify, notify and evaluate contacts and assess transmission; analyzes genomic and epidemiologic information to detect, investigate and respond to TB outbreaks; and conducts data analysis and research to describe the epidemiology of TB in NYC and to inform TB prevention and control policy. We are seeking a Public Health Epidemiologist to join our Expanded Contact Investigation (ECI) Team in the Office of Epidemiology. As an integral part of the team, this person will conduct TB case review, contact investigations, and transmission assessment in residential and non-residential settings across NYC. This person will be part of the decision-making process that leads to such investigations, will coordinate closely with external partners, and will be responsible for identifying, notifying, and conducting care coordination for contacts. The ideal candidate will be organized, have strong attention to detail, enjoys and has experience working with and serving the public, has familiarity with the healthcare system, and can work both independently and as part of a team.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Work closely with the ECI team and external entities to support investigations of and response to TB exposures in congregate settings, including worksites, schools, shelters, religious organizations and other site types. Systematically identify contacts and conduct notification, education, care coordination and follow-up care as applicable. Assess results of investigations to determine if further expansion or public health intervention is warranted. Review and enter data in the Health Department's TB surveillance and case management system. Conduct routine and ad hoc data analysis and present data to internal audiences. Other duties as required. PUBLIC HEALTH EPIDEMIOLOGIST

• 51181 Minimum Qualifications 1.

A master's degree from an accredited college or university in epidemiology, public health with a concentration in epidemiology, or a health-related field with a minimum of 6 graduate credits in epidemiology and 6 additional graduate credits in epidemiology or biostatistics; or 2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university plus two years of full-time paid experience as a health professional in a position which requires data collection and the reading and interpretation of medical charts and medical information in support of surveillance and epidemiologic investigations. Preferred Skills

• Experience working and communicating with patients and/or the public.
• Experience working and communicating with health care or social service providers.
• Experience with phlebotomy.
• Knowledge of core epidemiology principles.
• Experience with data review and analysis.
• Experience with medical terminology and conducting medical chart reviews.
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
