Job Summary The Infection Preventionist III role executes the implementation of the infection prevention program in a hospital, central and ambulatory care setting. This individual will be involved in the education of patients, health care providers, consultation to leadership and ambulatory/hospital staff. This individual will be involved in monitoring of healthcare practices that will place patients and healthcare providers at risk, surveillance of healthcare associated infections through chart abstraction, application of standardized criteria and data submission, and will communicate findings to healthcare providers and hospital leadership. The Infection Preventionist III is a active participant in accreditation and licensing activities. This position reports to the Regional Manager of Infection Prevention. The individual is responsible for assisting the IP IV and Regional Manager in training of incoming infection preventionists and surveillance inter-rater reliability checks. The IP III may also provide support for activities and/or facilities in need. The individual is responsible for assisting leadership with Joint Commission preparedness across a region and/or the System.
Job Description Minimum Qualifications Education:
Bachelors degree in nursing, public health or related field; Masters preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
Certified in Infection Control (CIC) required Experience / Knowledge /
Skills:
Minimum four (4) years of infection prevention and control experience Effective oral and written communication skills Proficient with Microsoft Office, databases, NHSN, and electronic medical record review Team facilitation skills required Proficiency in statistics, microbiology, patient care practices, epidemiology, and occupational health Knowledge of regulatory, licensing, and professional clinical guidelines Strong relationship management skills, including team facilitation, consensus building, and ability to influence stakeholders at multiple levels, including work team Principal Accountabilities Demonstrates principal accountabilities of Infection Preventionist II. Guides and supports IP I and II in required data analysis. Serves as the infection control consultant for multiple departments/facilities across any region. Assists Regional Manager and Level IV IP in training entry-level IPs on HAI surveillance and coordinates training schedules. Assists Regional Manager and Level IV IP in conducting inter-rater reliability checks. Oversees outbreak investigations at a regional level. Assists with training and/or leads required audits regionally. Leads infection prevention robust process improvement initiatives and projects across the continuum of care as needed. Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service. Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
