Director of Innovation Position Summary:
The Innovation Technician will play a hands-on role in supporting product development and innovation projects from bench to pilot and production scale. This position requires flexibility, technical aptitude, and strong collaboration skills to ensure successful client-directed projects and production runs. The role will include working directly with clients, managing bench-top prototypes, supporting plant trials, and assisting with technical documentation and reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
Product Development Understanding of client expectations and project objectives Detailed understanding of the functionality of ingredients Ability to develop new prototypes on aggressive timelines and specific restrictions. (Example of restrictions: maximum cost per unit, specific labelling requirements such as "natural," specific shelf-life requirements, etc.) Support product line trials and first production runs Maintain detailed records of work Effective communication across interdepartmental team Continuous Improvement Update formulations to meet current external and internal client expectations Update documentation Ability to review and approve alternative ingredient suppliers Attend production runs to provide technical knowledge and suggestions for ongoing operations/quality improvement Responsible for adherence to Safe Quality Food Level 2 compliance standards as trained upon annually Other duties as assigned Key metrics: shift profitability, first time quality, safe practices, number of new products developed and successfully launched, fees generated from Innovation activities
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
AA/BS in Food Science or related field required, or 1 to 2 years working as an industrial food developer required Working knowledge of production operations in a manufacturing setting Strong passion for science and creative problem solving Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task Excellent written and oral communication skills Expert grasp of English (verbal and written) required.
