The Seed Science Center at Iowa State University is seeking a Research Scientist I to support the Center's nationally recognized programs in seed science, research, education, and industry engagement. This early-career professional will have an opportunity to develop expertise in seed conditioning operations, applied research, laboratory and facility management, technical training, and stakeholder engagement. The successful candidate will join a collaborative team that supports students, researchers, seed industry professionals, and clients from around the world while contributing to the advancement of seed quality and innovation. What You'll Do Manage and operate seed conditioning equipment, facilities, and processes that support teaching, research, and service activities. Conduct and support applied research focused on seed conditioning, seed quality improvement, and post-harvest seed management; collect, analyze, and communicate research findings. Develop and maintain operating procedures, quality assurance practices, and safety protocols for seed processing and facility operations. Train and mentor staff and industry participants in seed conditioning principles and practices. Support the planning and delivery of educational programs, workshops, and professional training courses. Maintain laboratory, processing, and storage facilities, including equipment calibration, troubleshooting, and inventory management. Contribute to publications, technical resources, grant activities, and collaborations with industry partners and external stakeholders. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Seed Science, Plant Science, Biological Sciences, or a related field. Experience with operation and maintenance of seed conditioning, seed processing, seed enhancement, or post-harvest handling systems. Experience supporting agricultural or seed-related research projects. Knowledge of seed quality principles, quality assurance programs, and regulatory requirements. Experience working with various stakeholders including industry, academic, and international partners. Why Join Us?
