Office/Lab and Location:
A postdoctoral fellowship opportunity is currently available with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Research Service (ARS) within the Grand Forks Human Nutrition Research Center located in Grand Forks, North Dakota. The Agricultural Research Service (ARS) is the U.S. Department of Agriculture's chief scientific in-house research agency with a mission to find solutions to agricultural problems that affect Americans every day from field to table. ARS will deliver cutting-edge, scientific tools and innovative solutions for American farmers, producers, industry, and communities to support the nourishment and well-being of all people; sustain our nation's agroecosystems and natural resources; and ensure the economic competitiveness and excellence of our agriculture. The vision of the agency is to provide global leadership in agricultural discoveries through scientific excellence.
Research Project:
This project entails collaborating on a clinical intervention study to investigate the impact of the physical processing of food on ingestive behaviors and satiety. This research will contribute to a greater understanding of the impact of food processing on eating behaviors and health outcomes. You will join the mentor's team and have the opportunity to collaborate on other ongoing research on related topics.
Learning Objectives:
Under the guidance of the mentor, the fellow will have the opportunity to: Gain valuable skills in interdisciplinary research and clinical trial development Receive training in food pattern modeling methodologies Collaborate with a broad range of scientists and develop a strong network Develop methods to investigate the links between agriculture and human health Further develop skills related to manuscript preparation Mentor(s): The mentor for this opportunity is Julie Hess ( ) . Anticipated Appointment Start Date:
October 2026. Start date is flexible and will depend on a variety of factors.
Appointment Length:
The appointment will initially be for two years.
Level of Participation:
The appointment is full time.
Participant Stipend:
The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. The anticipated stipend range is $68,000 - $75,000 annually.

ORISE Information:
This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and ARS. Participants do not become employees of USDA, ARS, DOE or the program administrator, and there are no employment-related benefits. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. Health insurance can be obtained through ORISE.

Qualifications The qualified candidate should have received or be currently pursuing a doctoral degree in one of the relevant fields ( nutrition or a closely related field with demonstrable nutrition-related research experience) . Degree must have been received within the past four years or be anticipated to receive by 10/1/2026.
Preferred skills:
Strong oral and written communication skills. Broad knowledge of nutrition and physiology with an interest in food science, food policy, and food processing. Specific knowledge and techniques helpful for the participant include interdisciplinary collaboration, human intervention studies, and experimental design/statistics. Capable of analyzing data and preparing reports of the results.
