If you're passionate about advancing groundwater systems and ready to help grow a high-impact discipline, this role offers an exciting opportunity to lead, innovate, and shape the future of our groundwater and Aquifer Storage & Recovery (ASR) practice. As the Groundwater & ASR Discipline Leader, you will guide a multidisciplinary team through master planning, detailed design, and delivery of complex groundwater projects. You'll play a key role in CDM Smith's transformational growth, technical excellence, and industry leadership. What You'll Do Lead the development of groundwater engineering designs-from well drilling and pump selection to pumping stations, wellhead appurtenances, and full wellfield design. Support a diverse portfolio of groundwater systems, including brackish groundwater supply, ASR, indirect potable reuse, and Class I injection wells. Work closely with civil, process mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, I& C, permitting, and construction teams to deliver integrated solutions across all project phases. Prepare and manage technical deliverables such as reports, memoranda, drawings, specifications, and proposals. Ensure all work complies with firm standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices. Develop technical scopes for drilling programs, aquifer testing, sampling, and geophysical investigations. Contribute to the firm's Technical Knowledge Management by producing white papers, documenting innovative approaches, and supporting publication efforts. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, regulatory agencies, and industry partners; represent the firm at conferences and professional events. Collaborate with sales and strategy teams to develop winning proposal content and technical approaches. Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, providing guidance on technical, regulatory, and project management issues. Support project scoping, budgeting, and delivery to achieve high levels of client satisfaction. Provide mentorship, coaching, and technical leadership to junior staff, helping develop the next generation of groundwater experts. May supervise junior engineers and scientists on projects. Regular Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Science or related discipline. Registration as a licensed Professional Geologist, as certified by ASBOG, within the resident state, if available, or a surrounding state, if not, is required for geologist positions. PE license required for those with a water resources background. 12 years of related experience (Hydrogeologist or Water Resources Engineer) Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
- B.S. in Geology with a M.S. preferred.
- Texas Professional engineering (PE) license with a Water Resources background or ability to obtain a registration within six months.
- Experience in groundwater engineering including municipal groundwater supply systems.
- Ability to work on a variety of groundwater systems including bracki.
