Entry Level Geologist

GFT is seeking an Entry Level Geologist to join our Geotechnical, Dams & Hydraulics team! This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at either our Mechanicsburg, PA office. What you'll be challenged to do: As an emerging geologist, you will assist in the planning and execution of subsurface investigation programs including geotechnical drilling, groundwater analysis; perform site reconnaissance activities and to a lesser degree, slope stability evaluations, geophysical techniques, for soil and rock slopes; support the development of design and construction deliverables including geotechnical reports and construction drawings; and perform analyses for dams, transportation, water infrastructure, facilities, and other types of projects. In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following: Execute subsurface investigations in support of geotechnical design and evaluation efforts, including test boring inspection, installing and monitoring instrumentation, and other data collection activities as required. Perform assessments of groundwater resources including water well drilling and construction, pumping tests, estimation of aquifer properties, and permitting of water wells. Compile and manage geotechnical data and prepare typed boring logs and subsurface profiles. Assist in the preparation of geotechnical reports and documentation, correspondence, design details and drawings, proposals and specifications. Perform detailed field reconnaissance and geological research to evaluate site-specific geotechnical, geologic and hydrogeologic conditions and relative risks. Assist in the development and planning of subsurface explorations and laboratory testing programs. Apply soil and rock mechanic principles to evaluate existing slopes and design new cut/fill slopes. Provide construction observation support during the construction phase of projects including roadways, water infrastructure, dams, and other structures. This position requires travel on an as-needed basis to other GFT offices, client offices, or project work sites and will include overnight/out-of-town travel. What you will bring to our firm: Bachelor's degree in Geoscience, Geology, Engineering Geology, Geological Engineering, Geophysics or a related discipline. 0-3 years of experience in subsurface exploration, hydrogeology, or geotechnical deliverables including reports, designs, and drawings. Demonstrated interest in geology, hydrogeology, or geotechnical engineering through applied internships, applied academic projects, professional experience, and/or membership in relevant professional organizations. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong analytical, organizational, and report writing skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong field observation and data collection skills. Ability to perform field work, work outdoors, lift 30 pounds, and navigate rough terrain. Ability to travel on an as-needed basis to other GFT offices, client offices, or project work sites including overnight/out-of-town travel. Must have valid Driver's License.

Compensation:

The salary range for this position is $60,000

• $80,000.

Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
