We are hiring a highly motivated and dedicated earth scientist, interested in working in hydrology and hydrography! As part of our critical mission to manage floods and water supply, the successful candidate will apply science and creativity to solve real-world problems and keep mission-critical hydrologic and meteorological data flowing to decision makers. Some of the duties include low flow and flood flow discharge measurements, routine maintenance of field monitoring equipment, equipment troubleshooting, data quality control, surveying, hydraulic analysis, and data analysis. This position is located at LCRA's Buchanan Dam office and candidates should reside within 30 miles of the Buchanan Dam area to be available for work during occasional nights, weekends and holidays. You will be trusted to:
  • Collect and monitor hydrologic data and observations, including stage/discharge measurements, reference elevation marks, high water marks, point of zero flow, channel and control section conditions, evaporation, diversions, water use data, and other information as advised.
  • Construct and maintain field instruments, including O&M records for stream flow and precipitation monitoring stations, sensors, data logger/transmitters, telecommunications equipment and other equipment as advised.
  • Educate residents on lake and river operations. Communicates and explains water supply, flood conditions and water control decisions to internal and external partners and customers.
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic studies relative to regulation of stream flow. Estimates real-time tributary inflows and gains in flow to the Colorado River below the Highland Lakes. Determines minimum release of water required from the Highland Lakes.
  • Compile information needed for water use allocations, water use reporting, and regulatory compliance. Assist in analyzing data and preparing reports.
  • Gather hydrologic data and perform field analysis by traveling independently or with other staff to various locations as necessary.
You qualify with:
  • Four or more years of experience in hydrology, such as performing equipment installation/maintenance, hydrologic data collection and hydrologic analysis or relevant experience. A degree(s) in hydrology, water resources, electronics, engineering or relevant field may be substituted per LCRA guidelines for certain years of experience.
  • Driver's license You are a great fit with:
