Job Description
Job Summary
Responsible for obtaining and reporting laboratory results in an accurate and efficient manner as outlined in the laboratory policy and procedure manual.
Essential Job Functions
Conduct chemical analyses of body fluids, such as blood and urine, using microscope or automatic analyzer to detect abnormalities or diseases, and enter findings into computer.
Set up, adjust, maintain and clean medical laboratory equipment
Analyze the results of tests and experiments to ensure conformity to specifications, using special mechanical and electrical devices.
Conduct blood tests for transfusion purposes and perform blood counts.
Obtain specimens, cultivating, isolating and identifying microorganisms for analysis.
Examine cells stained with dye to locate abnormalities.
Collect blood or tissue samples from patients, observing principles of asepsis to obtain blood sample.
Consult with a pathologist to determine a final diagnosis when abnormal cells are found.
Perform and report laboratory tests in an accurate and efficient manner to assure patients are treaded knowledgably.
Communicate clearly and record accurately any orders received via the telephone to assure the correct tests are performed and diagnosis are recorded. At all times prioritize and organize work to assure turnaround times are acceptable.
Operate and perform periodic maintenance on all laboratory instrumentation to assure proper performance.
Rotate call and work weekends as assigned to ensure 24hr/7dy coverage of the department. Participate in mandatory training on EHR and Empower (Time & Attendance) and demonstrate basic competency in the functions applicable to the role
Must be able to work effectively with all hospital departments and providers offices.
Demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors at all times to ensure the hospital runs smoothly.
Position requires access to highly confidential information.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Completion of an acceptable Medical Technology Bachelor's degree program and accreditation through AMT or ASCP.
Possess a current license to perform laboratory testing.
Position requires a minimum of two years' experience working in a hospital setting as a generalist with experience in Microbiology, Bood Banking, Hematology, Chemistry, Coagulation, and Phlebotomy.
Skills/Competencies
Must have good auditory, verbal and written ability.
Must be able to hear and understand verbal orders.
