Job Description
The Forensic Toxicologist II is responsible for assisting with the daily functions of the Medical Examiner's Office including analyzing seized drug evidence for the presence of drugs (Drug Chemistry) or biological evidence for the presence of drugs, alcohol, etc. (Toxicology).
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Performs advanced sophisticated collection, analysis and evaluation of evidence utilizing standardized and industry acceptable techniques. Prepares chain of custody. Prepares reports. Analyzes evidence, biological or other, for the presence of drugs, alcohol, and/or carbon monoxide. Quantifies compounds in biological specimens, qualitatively identifies drugs in seized drug evidence. Screens samples by Immunoassay. Prepares reagents, standards, controls in various concentrations. Performs routine preventive maintenance on equipment and quality control procedures. Washes glassware and changes gas cylinders as necessary. Maintains lab and workspace. Testifies in court when appropriate. Performs other duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Excellent customer service and communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Must be able to stay organized and know how to prioritize the workload. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Competency with computers and Microsoft Office 365 Suite. Advanced analytical skills. Ability to use basic laboratory equipment, including but not limited to: LC/MS/MS, LC/QTOF/MS, GC/FID, GC/FID/MS, Immunoassay, Cooximeter and balances. Basic knowledge of laboratory practices and forensic procedures. Bachelor's degree in Toxicology, Chemistry, or other appropriate biological science Three (3) years of experience in a laboratory setting. Within six (6) months of hire, must have a Texas license or provisional license as a forensic analyst in the appropriate job-specific category.Preferred Requirements:
