Job Description
Job Description Summary Under the direction of the Medical Directors and management staff, provides state of the art laboratory specimen testing, including phlebotomy, from neonates to geriatric patients ensuring patient safety. Completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period. Other related duties as assigned.
Responsibilities General Functions:
- Processes and tests blood and other body fluid specimens for clinical laboratory
- Reviews test results and applies the correct clinical interpretation of that data
- Reports lab results accurately and responsively, to include use of a laboratory information system
- Performs operation, maintenance and advanced troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and equipment
- Performs venous and capillary phlebotomy and ensures specimen integrity
- Performs basic clerical functions
- Acts as a resource person for providing information and problem solving for the Medical Technicians, Phlebotomists and other laboratory personnel
- Assists with R D projects as required
- Trains employees and students
- Relays orders, take inventory and stocks supplies
- Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively
- Maintains safe environment
- Addresses patient population-specific needs
- Participates in Performance Improvement activities
Qualifications Education:
MINIMUM EDUCATION
Bachelors Degree from an approved college or university and/or graduate of an accredited school of medical technology, or equivalent such as military training as defined by 42 CFR 493.1489. Personnel who, prior to 2/28/92 have qualified at the Medical Technologist level by achieving a satisfactory grade on a HHS examination. The above meets required criteria as defined by CLIA regulations for High Complexity testing (42 CFR 493.1489, Jan. 24, 2003).Experience:

Certified (registered) or registry-eligible in accordance with an approved certifying agency, e.g.ASCP, HHS, AMT.
Registry eligible should obtain certification within 1 year from date of hire.
