Job Description

Overview MCI Diagnostics is hiring for a Toxicology Laboratory Technologists responsible for performing complex toxicological analyses on patient samples in an independent clinical laboratory. The position requires a strong background in Chemistry and Hematology. Experienced in Quality Assurance and Compliance and operates advanced analytical equipment, ensures compliance with regulatory standards, interprets data, and prepares detailed reports for healthcare providers. Collaboration with laboratory staff and clinicians is essential to deliver accurate and timely results that inform patient treatment plans. Key Responsibilities Sample Analysis and Testing
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative toxicological analyses on patient-derived specimens.
  • Utilize advanced analytical techniques, including gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS), and immunoassays.
  • Perform tests for therapeutic drug monitoring, substance abuse screening, and identification of toxic exposures to support patient diagnosis and treatment.
  • Perform method validation and quality control checks. Laboratory Operations
  • Prepare patient samples for analysis, including extraction, derivatization, and dilution as required.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring optimal performance and troubleshooting issues as needed.
  • Adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and laboratory safety protocols to maintain a safe and compliant work environment.
  • Document all procedures, results, and deviations in accordance with laboratory practices and laboratory information management systems (LIMS). Data Interpretation and Reporting
  • Analyze test results, interpret findings, and prepare comprehensive reports for healthcare providers, including detailed explanations of methodologies and clinical relevance when applicable.
  • Ensure reports meet regulatory requirements, such as those set by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) or the College of American Pathologists (CAP).
  • Communicate results to clinicians, addressing inquiries and providing technical expertise. Quality Assurance and Compliance
  • Participate in proficiency testing (PT) programs.
  • Engage in quality assurance programs, including internal audits, to ensure compliance with accreditation requirements.
  • Stay updated on regulatory changes, clinical toxicology standards, and best practices in patient testing.
  • Implement corrective actions for non-conforming results or procedural deviations. Collaboration and Training
  • Work closely with laboratory technicians, supervisors, and healthcare providers to ensure seamless workflow and accurate result delivery.
  • Train junior staff or technicians on analytical techniques, equipment operation, and protocols specific to patient testing.
  • Contribute to projects to improve testing methodologies or expand clinical toxicology services. Qualifications Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, toxicology, biochemistry, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a clinical toxicology or medical laboratory setting, with hands-on experience in patient sample analysis.
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Toxicological Chemist (ASCP) is highly desirable. Technical Skills
  • Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting GC-MS, LC-MS, and other analytical instrumentation used in clinical testing.
  • Strong understanding of clinical toxicology, pharmacokinetics, and drug metabolism as they relate to patient care.
  • Familiarity with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and data analysis software.
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards, including CLIA, CAP, and HIPAA requirements for patient data protection. Soft Skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in handling sensitive patient samples and data.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret complex results in a clinical context.
  • Effective communication skills for interacting with healthcare providers, colleagues, and regulatory bodies.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, patient-focused environment. Working Conditions
  • The role is based in an independent clinical laboratory setting with exposure to hazardous chemicals and biological samples. Strict adherence to safety protocols is required.
