Number of Vacancies 1 Location Edinburg, Texas Department School of Medicine / MDOISU Cancer Research FTE 1.0 FLSA Exempt Scope of Job Trainee position to pursue research as a vital component of their educational mission and professional career development. Under limited supervision and with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment, performs complex research work by assisting in the development, implementation, and monitoring of specialized research projects. Manages the upkeep, training, and supervision of specialized research equipment within area of assigned responsibility. Description of Duties The following is a listing of typical duties that may be applicable to the position: Develops and tests vaccines against infectious diseases, particularly tuberculosis. Work with conventional laboratory reagents, instrumentation, and molecular/tissue biology techniques. Operate and generate data utilizing advanced instrumentation/techniques, flow cytometry, confocal imaging, live animal IVIS, and CT-PET machines. Designs in vitro and in vivo (murine model) experiments. Record and analyze research data, write protocols and manuscripts Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Supervision Received General direction from the assigned supervisor. Supervision Given None. Required Education PhD in Biology, Molecular Biology, Immunology or closely related field from an accredited University (based on funding restrictions degree may need to have been conferred within a set period of time previous to assuming position). Preferred Education None. Licenses/Certifications None. Required Experience None. Preferred Experience Experience with animal research, immunology, and advanced instrumentation such as flow cytometry and confocal imaging. Prior experience in vaccine studies. Equipment Use of personal computer and proficiency in software and research statistical applications. Working Conditions Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office/research environment; some travel and weekend work is required. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
