Description Meteorologist / Weather Reporter WGAL-TV, the Hearst-owned NBC affiliate serving the Harrisburg, Lancaster, Lebanon and York, PA market has an immediate opening for a Meteorologist / Weather Reporter. We're looking for both expertise and personality. You understand the science, and you also understand that great weather coverage is about connecting with people. You can explain why tomorrow's forecast matters, be a trusted voice when severe weather threatens, confidently report from the middle of a developing weather story, and bring energy and curiosity to a community event. If you're a meteorologist who loves forecasting, thrives during live coverage and genuinely enjoys connecting with viewers and the community, we want to hear from you. Our ideal candidate will be one who thinks outside the box - can deliver a polished in-studio forecast and then turn right around and produce an engaging, memorable vertical video about a timely weather topic.

We're looking for a storyteller at heart: with the ability to write and craft a weather-related report fit for any screen. You will produce enterprise content and deliver accurate forecasts across television, digital and other platforms. This position reports to the News Director. Responsibilities Analyze weather data and develop accurate, timely forecasts for the WGAL viewing area
Deliver compelling, conversational and easy-to-understand in-studio weather forecasts
Build graphics and forecasts with little supervision
Provide urgent, authoritative and calm coverage before, during and after severe and high-impact weather events
Report live from the field during severe weather, providing viewers with immediate observations, context and safety information
Interpret radar, model guidance and other meteorological data and translate complex information into useful information for viewers
Create and deliver weather content across television, digital, streaming, social and partner platforms
Report live from the field on community events, seasonal stories and other assignments in addition to weather coverage
Develop community-focused stories and find opportunities to connect weather with the people, places and events important to our audience
Serve as an enthusiastic ambassador for WGAL in the community at station appearances and events
Gather, verify and summarize information for broadcast and digital coverage
Participate in daily editorial meetings and contribute weather and story ideas
Keep newsroom personnel informed about current and developing weather conditions
Collaborate with anchors, reporters, producers, photographers and digital teams on coverage across platforms Requirements Strong knowledge of meteorology, weather science and forecasting
Dynamic, authentic and conversational on-air presence
Ability to combine scientific credibility with personality, warmth and strong storytelling
Experience with television weather systems and graphics
Strong live reporting skills
Digital/social media expertise and enthusiasm for innovative storytelling
Must work weekends, in addition to a flexible schedule in the event of severe weather, holiday fill-in coverage, etc.
NWA Seal of Approval and/or AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) designation or intent to work toward certifications.
