In this dynamic position, you will conduct microbiological testing, analyze biological samples, and support product development and quality assurance processes. Your expertise will help drive breakthroughs in health, safety, and biotechnology applications while adhering to strict regulatory guidelines. Header Duties Perform microbiological assays including culture, identification, and quantification of microorganisms in various samples Conduct DNA isolation, RNA extraction, and molecular biology techniques such as PCR and Western blot analysis Maintain rigorous aseptic techniques during all laboratory procedures to prevent contamination Operate and troubleshoot laboratory instruments including microscopes, ELISA readers, and laboratory information management systems (LIMS) Ensure compliance with GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) and CGMP (Current Good Manufacturing Practice) standards during experiments and documentation Support biochemistry experiments related to microbial enzyme activity and protein analysis Prepare detailed reports documenting experimental procedures, results, and interpretations in accordance with FDA regulation Experience Prior clinical laboratory experience or research experience in microbiology or molecular biology is highly preferred Demonstrated proficiency in DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, ELISA, Western blotting, and microscopy techniques Familiarity with microbiological testing methods aligned with FDA regulations and CGMP standards Hands-on experience with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) for data tracking and reporting Strong understanding of aseptic techniques, cell culture practices, and microbiology safety protocols Ability to interpret scientific data accurately and communicate findings effectively in written reports Proven ability to work independently within a team environment while managing multiple projects efficiently The primary responsibilities of the biologist or microbiologist include but are not limited to the following tasks: Plating and enriching of all client samples Appropriate enrichment and incubation of qualitative samples. Appropriate dilution and plating of quantitative samples. Maintaining thorough cleanliness of bench tops○ Ensuring that bencht ops are wiped off in the morning before work begins and in the evening after work is finished with 20% bleach solution followed by 70% isopropyl alcohol.○ Cleaning between analyses or tasks with 20% bleach solution followed by 70% isopropyl alcohol. Reading plates for analysis○ Reading quantitative plates and counting colonies for enumeration purposes. Record keeping and entering data into Confident Cannabis○ Recording specific growth or enumeration on batch sheets.○ Taking photos of failing enumerations or confirmed suspect growth. Preparation of Quality Control Samples○ When applicable, ensuring that pellets are hydrated in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.○ When necessary, growing out a culture to produce sufficient counts for creation of quality control samples. Preparation and Analysis of samples by qPCR○ Enriching samples in incubator for appropriate amount of time○ Performing DNA extraction○ Running qPCR thermocycler and analyzing data for positives and negatives Maintaining Microbial Inventory○ Ensure all consumables are in stock (microbial plates, pipette tips, reagent reservoirs, etc.)○ Ensure all plating reagents are in stock (PDB, buffer solutions, etc.)○ Ensure all qPCR reagents are in stock (master mix, DNA purification kits, detection assays,positive controls, etc.) Recording temperatures daily Record keeping and traceability of sterility and air samples to identify trends○ Record sterility and air plate results into the traceability log. Reporting any identified trends to the laboratory director or quality assurance manager. Record keeping and traceability of quality control samples to identify trends○ Record quality control results into the QC log. Reporting any identified trends to the laboratory director or quality assurance manager.
