Position Summary We are seeking a Microbiologist to support microbiological testing and environmental monitoring in a regulated laboratory environment. This role works under the direction of the Microbiology Supervisor and is responsible for conducting microbiological assays, maintaining laboratory equipment, trending data, and supporting microbiology operations. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of aseptic techniques, microbiological testing methods, and environmental monitoring within a pharmaceutical, chemical, or other highly regulated manufacturing environment. Key Responsibilities Microbiological Testing Perform microbiological testing including pour plate, membrane filtration, swab testing, water testing, organism enumeration, and growth promotion testing. Conduct routine environmental monitoring of controlled areas. Perform organism identification, gram staining, and morphological analysis as needed. Ensure testing is performed according to established methods and laboratory procedures. Laboratory Operations Trend microbiological data and report findings to support quality and process improvements. Calibrate laboratory instruments and assist with instrument qualifications. Record daily equipment temperature readings and maintain documentation. Create purchase orders and manage laboratory supply inventory. Quality & Compliance Open investigations related to microbiological results when required. Complete change controls related to laboratory documentation. Follow and support compliance with cGMP and laboratory quality standards. Maintain accurate documentation and ensure data integrity. Collaboration & Support Communicate daily with production, quality, and other departments regarding sample status and microbiology results. Coordinate and support the work of Microbiology Technicians. Perform technician-level duties when technicians are absent. Support departmental and company objectives through additional assigned tasks. Qualifications Education Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Biology, or related scientific field, OR Associate degree in a related field with five years of progressive experience in a pharmaceutical or highly regulated industry. Experience Minimum 2 years of microbiology laboratory experience preferred. Required Skills Strong knowledge of aseptic technique. Experience performing microbiological assays and environmental monitoring. Ability to read and follow analytical methods and SOPs. Familiarity with microbiological laboratory equipment and testing procedures. Basic understanding of USP Chapters (61, 62, and 1117). Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook). Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, sit, kneel, reach, and grasp as required in a laboratory setting. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally. Ability to identify colors and maintain visual clarity for laboratory work. Comfortable working around biological organisms and laboratory chemicals. Ability to wear respiratory protection equipment, including air-purifying respirators Weekends (Friday - Monday) 10 hour shifts.
