$55,112.05- $55,112.05 The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Position Summary Our laboratory conducts translational research on mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance and the role of the microbiome in health and disease. We are seeking a Technician B to provide general research support for: A study on the impact of antibiotic prophylaxis on the emergence of drug resistance Studies on colonization with multidrug-resistant bacteria in solid organ transplant patients Projects within the Microbiome Core The successful candidate will conduct experiments, analyze results, and maintain accurate scientific records. Responsibilities include performing standard research procedures and microbiological and molecular biology techniques under supervision, including DNA/RNA isolation, RT-PCR, library preparation, and whole-genome sequencing. Prior research experience and an interest in microbiology and/or infectious diseases are preferred. Responsibilities Maintain laboratory equipment Comply with laboratory safety regulations Perform quality control procedures Perform other related duties necessary to the functioning of the laboratory and its research projects Minimum Qualifications Bachelor?s degree in chemistry, biology, physics, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience Preferred Qualifications Experience in microbiology and/or microbiome research Other Requirements The candidate selected for this position is required to undergo a drug screening test prior to a final offer of employment being made Medical clearance and participation in the medical surveillance program Potential bloodborne pathogen exposure Work with known infectious agents or biological toxins where prophylactic vaccination is available, including SARS-CoV-2 Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements Equal Opportunity Employer / Disability / Veteran Columbia University is committed to the hiring of qualified local residents.
