This position requires routine weekend and holiday work. A Microbiologist works a day shift schedule, but additional off-hours work schedules may be required for emergencies and holidays.Benefits for this position include:

A Microbiologist job is available with City of Fort Worth Water Department, Central Water Laboratory. A Microbiologist performs a variety of laboratory tests on water/wastewater samples for environmental monitoring and testing: to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. This is a full-time position that supports the laboratory's mission of providing accurate, responsive and cost-effective analytical and technical services to all areas of the community. The microbiologist is responsible for preparing and analyzing water and wastewater samples for chemical analysis.Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with major course work in Microbiology, Biology, Medical technology or a related field Two (2) years of responsible bacteriological laboratory experiencePreferred Qualifications:
Experience in a municipal or environmental water and wastewater laboratory Experience in laboratory QA/QC requirements The Microbiologist job responsibilities include: Collects and prepares samples for analysis; analyzes, water and wastewater for chemical and microbiological analysis; interprets and documents steps for chemical and microbiological analysis; and stores or transports samples as required Maintains safety of environmental hazards in compliance with local, state and federal regulations, including chemical and sample custody, storage and disposal Reviews and interprets peer and self-generated data for accuracy and completeness. Ensures document traceability is accurately reflected in steps and processes Assists in ordering and maintaining laboratory stock of glassware, chemicals, and related supplies; washes glassware; and sterilizes equipment, as appropriate. Prepares biological media, solutions, reagents, and antigens; and operates an autoclave and related equipment. Prepares daily, weekly, and monthly reports as assigned by supervisory staff or regulatory agencies. Files and distributes results of tests Participates in internal and external audits. Facilitates auditor with requested information and documentation; and submits proficiency testing of samples Troubleshoots, repairs and ensures continuous improvement of equipment and analytical methods Edits current laboratory operating procedures to conform to existing practices, methods and NELAP criteria. Creates new operating procedures, as needed; and provides analysts with most current method processes Works to continually enhance knowledge and skills. Attends quality control and safety training, including cross training and vendor webinars Working Conditions and Physical Demands Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting; depending on assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases and workspace restrictions. Light Work - Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly having to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for the Sedentary Work category and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated Light Work. !
