JOB DESCRIPTION
Performs molecular diagnostic assays within the molecular department. The Molecular Technologist works independently but closely with the technical staff, leads, supervisors, and other departments to perform routine testing within the laboratory. The Molecular Technologist independently executes routine tasks as trained. This position reports to the section Supervisor. This is a Tuesday-Saturday Schedule, 2nd shift. Tuesday-Saturday 1 pm-9:30 pm.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs test analyses daily and reviews quality records as required. Performs molecular biology bench-work, including but not limited to: PCR set-up, as trained following laboratory established SOPs and quality standards with minimal supervision. Operates automated liquid handling instrumentation to execute complex high-throughput procedures and troubleshoot as trained according to SOPs. Participation in appropriate research and development endeavors related to molecular diagnostics using PCR, NGS, PGx & library preparation. Participation in Laboratory QA/QC monitoring duties for Molecular Diagnostics as assigned. In the event of non-conformances, ensures that proper personnel are notified to prevent results of tests examinations from being reported until all corrective actions have been taken and the test system is properly functioning. Maintaining competency and participating in proficiency testing as appropriate. General duties such as maintaining lab cleanliness, maintaining inventory, washing lab ware Assists in training of employees as needed. Adheres to QC and maintenance procedures established in the department. Utilizes recommended QC material for testing. Performs and records all QC established by department. Performs function checks, calibration and maintenance of equipment as required and trouble shoots instrumentation. Implements new QC procedures in compliance with implementation of new testing. Makes corrective changes of existing QC. Reports non-complying QC. Assists in the maintenance of department stock and supply levels by being aware of reagents and consumables used and notifying Supervisor when stocks are low. Assists in maintaining department in a clean and orderly manner. Anticipates and maintains department supply needs. Adheres to all safety regulations and insures departmental compliance. Preparation of reports for sign-out. Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in a laboratory science (Biotechnology, Genetics, Microbiology, Biology). Master's Degree preferred. MLT (ASCP) or MB(ASCP) current certification preferred. Preferably one or more years in a clinical laboratory working as a Molecular Technologist.
