Job Description

The lab technician/inventory specialist will be responsible for working with a team to accurately and consistently test construction materials related to asphalt mixes in a timely manner. This will involve the breakdown of road and quarry material, batching and producing specimens, testing specimens, analyzing data, and problem solving. This position will provide multi-level geographic field and office support to operations. Must be able to travel 25% of the time
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES OF POSITION
Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task Follow all company policies and OSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment. Always observe safe work practices Follow quality control guidelines and industry approved testing and preparation standards Record and organize information from a variety of sources accurately Communicate effectively with all members of the mix design team, D.O.T. personnel, and personnel from various agencies Obtain state D.O.T., county, city, etc. materials and testing standards in a timely manner Collect samples from existing roads, quarries, and plant locations for evaluation Use a variety of heavy-duty saws and drills to effectively prepare road samples Prepare and test specimens according to industry standards and specifications Evaluate and analyze test results and take corrective action when needed Assist in general maintenance and calibration of all laboratory and road equipment Maintain good housekeeping practices Developing, processing, maintaining geographic data sets Collecting drone data and providing volumetric analysis for inventory purposes Ability to work in a mine environment which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity. Ability to work in challenging field areas such as roads, berms, mining pits, wetlands, forests, stockpiles, industrial areas, and in/on/around mobile equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma or G.E.D Excellent organizational skills Time management skills and superb multitasking ability Effective communication skills Respond proactively to anticipated needs or issues Learn quickly and work autonomously Read, understand, and follow ASTM, AASHTO, D.O.T., county, etc. testing methods Ability to lift 75 pounds Capability of interacting with individuals from a variety of backgrounds Work well in a team environment This job requires high attention to detail, including the ability to perform basic math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Comprehension of basis percentages is necessary to successfully calculate quantities of materials used to make asphalt. Must demonstrate excellent safety awareness, and a willingness to comply with company policies and safety standards. Must have reliable transportation and have the ability to travel. Periodic evenings, nights, weekends, and overtime hours are expected. Must always wear proper attire including safety vests, safety glasses when appropriate, long pants, hard sole/close-toed shoes, and reflect a clean and presentable image. Valid Driver's License required. Willingness to work overtime as needed Must be able to travel 25% of the time
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Constant physical effort, including standing, is required during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day. Employee must be able to stand for extended periods of time, and to bend, and crouch as required to perform Key Duties. Ability to lift and carry at least 85 pounds personally and up to 140 pounds with assistance. Work environment periodically exposes the employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust Work may involve a variety of substances such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, sharp metal objects, asphalt, and ready mixed concrete.
