Fire Hydrant Technician

Incumbents in this position are responsible for preventative maintenance and repair of fire hydrants. This position is assigned to pay grade G12. Perform hydrant inspections and testing. Perform preventative maintenance as needed. Performs outlet cap lubrication. Performs valve stem lubrication as needed. Performs corrective maintenance. Repair weep hole functionality. Replace outlet caps and outlet caps gaskets. Perform emergency repairs as needed. Prep and painting of fire hydrants. Assists in solving customer complaints and problems as well as those reported by local fire departments. Assists with construction, repair, maintenance, and operations of water and wastewater lines and mains. Work order management. Inventory management. Performs other related job duties as assigned. In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties. High school diploma or GED. Six (6) months of general work experience or any related work field. Possession of NC Distribution System Operator license is preferred. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid State of North Carolina driver's license required.
