PROCESSING TECHNICIAN TRAINEE DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
: : This is a non-competitive entry level position in which an Employee on an assigned shift, assists in the actual operation and maintenance of a Type A sewage Treatment plant with facilities for activated sludge, solids handling and sludge drying. Since this is an entry level position and the employee is involved in learning the routine of the plant operation, direct supervision is received from operating personnel of higher rank. As the employee becomes more experienced, leeway is permitted for carrying out work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
: (Illustrative only) Learns and assists in the operation of all equipment and process related to the treatment facility; Learns and assists in the inspection and monitoring of all systems and equipment; Learns and assists in the operation of pumping station; Learns and assists in sampling and laboratory analysis duties; Learns and assists in keeping necessary records during an assigned shift; Performs routine and incidental maintenance tasks; Performs custodial duties in plant work areas; Assists maintenance personnel with maintenance projects; Performs increasingly responsible duties as assigned in the operation/maintenance of the plant
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
: Familiarity with elementary principles of chemistry and general science; good general intelligence; good observational skills; mechanical aptitude; dependability; ability to learn the principles and procedures related to the operation and maintenance of a sewage treatment facility; ability to develop skill in the operation and maintenance of equipment; ability to get along with others; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; physical condition commensurate with the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A. Graduation from high school or New York State equivalency diploma.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT FOR ACCEPTANCE OF APPLICATIONS
(1) Eligibility for a Class D New York State Driver's License at the time of application; possession of license at the time of appointment; possession must be maintained throughout the term of employment.
